Chinese Wontons

_DSC0182 2Everyone has a family recipe that they grew up on. Well, this one is mine. Chinese wontons. Yum! Growing up we would often have family gatherings at my grandparents house. Upon entering my Gung Gung and Poh Poh’s house, my cousins, brother, sister and I would demand six or seven wontons each as our pre-dinner treat. These cute little wonton parcels are easy to make, delicious, and very versatile. You can boil, steam, deep or pan fry them, and either way, they’ll surely taste amazing. When I entertain or am invited to potluck dinners with friends, this is my go-to recipe. And trust me, they very go quickly!

Do you have a quick and easy recipe you like to cook up when entertaining?

  • 1 package of wonton skins
  • 1 package of ground turkey
  • 2 cups of kale and/or spinach, chopped
  • 1 stalk of green onions, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon of fresh ginger
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • A few splashes of soy sauce
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • A bowl of luke warm water
  1. In a large bowl mix the ground turkey, chopped veggies and onions.
  2. Add in the fresh ginger, soy sauce, garlic, a sprinkle of salt and a dash of pepper.
  3. To assemble the wontons, place the wonton skin on a flat surface. In the center of the wonton skin, add a teaspoon of the mixture. Dip your finger in the bowl of luke warm water and paint one side of the wonton skin. Carefully fold the wonton skin in half and seal it tight. Then, take the two connected corners and pinch them together, forming the shape of the wonton. Add a little water to seal the pinch tighter, if necessary.
  4. To pan fry the wontons, add a little bit of cooking oil to a pan and once heated, dip the wontons in. Fry until golden brown and crispy. Place wontons on a draining rack to get rid of any excess oil. Wait until they cool down and get your chopsticks out! Dip them in soy sauce and enjoy.

These look delicious! Are the wonton skins from a specialty store? I usually make guacamole or a baked good, I’m not exactly the best cook yet :/ thanks for sharing!

YUM! My grandpa and I always used to make dumplings as well, SO good! They just taste better when they’re made by hand, right? I’ll have to try your recipe!
